Smith Toe Raise

This exercise strengthens your calf muscles using a Smith machine. You rest the bar on your shoulders, stand on a raised block, and lift your heels up and down.

How to Perform

  1. 1Set the bar height so you can stand under it comfortably with flat feet.
  2. 2Stand under the bar so it rests on your shoulders, with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  3. 3Step onto a block or plates with the front of your feet, letting your heels hang off the edge.
  4. 4Hold the bar with your hands slightly wider than your shoulders.
  5. 5Tighten your stomach muscles and keep your back straight during the whole exercise.
  6. 6Slowly lift your heels as high as you can so you are standing on your toes.
  7. 7Stop for a second at the top, then slowly lower your heels back down.
  8. 8Repeat this movement for as many times as needed.
