Smith Standing Behind Head Military Press

This is a shoulder exercise done while standing inside a Smith machine. It works your shoulder muscles by having you push the bar from behind your head up toward the ceiling.

How to Perform

  1. 1Set the machine so the bar sits at the same height as your shoulders.
  2. 2Stand up with your feet apart and keep your knees bent a little bit.
  3. 3Hold the bar with your hands wider than your shoulders, palms facing forward.
  4. 4Lift the bar to unlock it and take a step back to stand firmly.
  5. 5Place the bar behind your head so it rests on the bottom of your neck.
  6. 6Keep your tummy muscles tight and your chest high the whole time.
  7. 7Push the bar straight up until your arms are fully straight.
  8. 8Wait for a second at the top, then slowly lower the bar back down behind your head.
  9. 9Do this again for as many times as you need.
