This exercise strengthens your lower back muscles. You lie on your stomach over a stability ball and lift your upper body up. Placing your hands behind your head adds difficulty. It also helps work your glutes and hamstrings.

Exercise Ball Back Extension With Hands Behind Head demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Put the stability ball on the floor and lie face down with your hips on top of it.
  2. 2Rest your feet against a wall or heavy object so you stay steady.
  3. 3Place your hands gently behind your head.
  4. 4Tighten your stomach muscles and slowly lift your chest until your body forms a straight line.
  5. 5Hold still for a moment at the top, then slowly lower yourself back down.
  6. 6Repeat this movement for the target number of times.
