This is a one-legged exercise that strengthens your bottom and the back of your legs. It also helps your lower back. You use a box to help you start in the right position. This move is great for building balance and strength.

Dumbbell Single Leg Deadlift With Stepbox Support demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand tall with your feet apart. Hold a dumbbell in your right hand.
  2. 2Rest your left foot on a box or step behind you.
  3. 3Keep your back flat and tighten your stomach muscles. Lean forward at your hips to lower the weight.
  4. 4As you lean, lift your left leg up behind you. Make a straight line from your head to your heel.
  5. 5Lower the weight until you feel a stretch in the back of your right leg. Then stand back up to the start.
  6. 6Do all your repetitions, then switch to the other side.
