This exercise strengthens your shoulder muscles and helps your stomach muscles stay tight. It tests how steady you can keep your arm and body while walking with a weight held high above your head.

Dumbbell Single Arm Overhead Carry demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand up straight with your feet apart. Hold a dumbbell in one hand.
  2. 2Lift the dumbbell up high until your arm is completely straight.
  3. 3Tighten your stomach muscles and keep your back straight. Walk forward while keeping the weight up high.
  4. 4Keep walking for as long or as far as you need to.
  5. 5Switch the weight to your other hand and do it again.
