This exercise works the muscles on the back of your shoulders and helps your upper back. To do it, you lean forward from your hips and lift weights out to your sides while keeping your body steady.

Dumbbell Rear Lateral Raise (support Head) demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand with your feet apart and hold a weight in each hand.
  2. 2Bend your knees a little and lean forward from your hips, keeping your back flat.
  3. 3Lift your arms out to the sides until they are level with the ground, keeping your elbows slightly bent.
  4. 4Stop for a moment at the top, then slowly lower your arms back down.
  5. 5Do this for the number of times you want to repeat the exercise.
