Barbell Standing Twist

This exercise works your tummy muscles, especially the sides and lower back. You hold a barbell and turn your upper body from side to side. It makes your core stronger and helps you stay steady when you twist.

Barbell Standing Twist demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand with your feet as wide as your shoulders. Hold a barbell in front of your chest with both hands, keeping your palms facing down.
  2. 2Tighten your stomach muscles and keep your back straight the whole time.
  3. 3Slowly turn your upper body to the right. Turn on your feet and hips, but keep your legs steady.
  4. 4Stop for a moment when you finish the turn, then slowly go back to where you started.
  5. 5Do the same turn to the left side.
  6. 6Keep switching sides for as many turns as you need to do.
